Guest Speaker: Quovella Maeweather, Director of Public Safety, Franklin Township, NJ.  Director Maeweather is also Region 1 VP of NOBLE (National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives).

The Summit also features four interactive workshop sessions where participants will begin to develop an ongoing consortium that addresses violence in our community and builds healthy relationships between law enforcement and community members.

Day 2: Friday, 6/16 - 8am to 12:30pm (Breakfast Included)

Guest Speaker: William Johnson, Former Mayor of Rochester, NY. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at St. John Fisher College as well as Founder and CEO of Strategic Community Intervention LLC.

After the guest speaker’s address, we will conclude the Summit with a panel discussion focused on how to “Keep our children safe in schools”, through a commitment to police and community cooperation.

The Two Sides of Policing: Warrior & Guardian Mindsets

American psychologist Philip Zimbardo says, “The line between good and evil is permeable and almost anyone can be induced to cross it when pressured by situational forces.” Former Rochester Police Deputy Chief Wayne Harris will lead you in an exploration of those pressures and the line between guardian and warrior.

As a former State Trooper and now a Rochester School District Commissioner James Patterson has lived on both sides of the cultural conflicts between community and law enforcement. His co-facilitator Dr. Jason Willis is an expert on violence prevention and community wellness. You couldn’t have better guides for finding the way from discord to harmony.

Police Hiring: Attracting the Right People

Reverend Marilyn Cunningham helped define and is now a member of the new civilian review panel and Commander Sammy Drayton Jr is a long-term leader in the Rochester Police Department. Through their different (and maybe opposing) perspectives, these facilitators will guide you through the ins and outs, ups and downs of hiring new police officers.
