UCLM Press Conference Demanding the Re-opening of Carlson Metrocenter YMCA

On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, UCLM convened a press conference to demand that YMCA of Greater Rochester reopen the Carlson Metrocenter branch. UCLM contends that the current urban YMCA facilities and the difficult-to-reach suburban branches do not meet the needs of the 211,000 residents in urban Rochester. Furthermore, not having a complete facility accessible in the downtown area goes against the YMCA’s vision and its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

See the coverage from the press conference at the links listed below. The first link by RochesterFirst reached out to YMCA President and CEO Ernie Lamour, issued a formal statement and also said, “The Y will determine the feasibility of a second, full-service facility within the city limits by 2027.”
